Hi all
thought id introduce myself
first and foremost My name is Alan im 28 years old and im a future green lane addict lolz.
I got my first 4x4 2 weeks ago in the shape of a Freelander 1.8 k-series gs after my bmw 318i blew up again lolz.
had the chance to get my very own mean lean off roading machine and I thought id grip it with both hands.
now I no you all will probably stop me right there ( I no Freelander's have the most hated rep ever lol) but I like to look after my toys. even though its a 1.8 k-series engine I recon with enough love and care thrown at her she will look after me.
so that's about it really.
some people join car clubs . some people join bike clubs. I thought id give the off roading community a shout looks like my sort of people.

thanks im looking forward to the whole experience lolz. hopefully wont be as stressful as todays been. All's I can say is she's taking a whole lot of love and care up at the moment lol but you Got to love them haven't you ha ha

Landrovers can be stressful, hopefully it will improve with time. :)
But then again, it is a 1.8 Freelander, so fingers crossed! :D

I do love mine! Not much effort required! ;)
 
lol I like the challenge of it to be honest. had massive problems with it not revving over 3000 for a while but sometimes it would but some times it wouldn't it was really abnormal. so me being me though lets strip the lot lol took the in tank fuel pump out took the coils off the plugs out every thing that I thought would cause the issue. (I had it in my head it was a fueling issue) everything checked out ok . so after a few harsh words and loads of pg tips I thought to my self if its not fueling it has to be with either air intake or exhaust gasses out. so checked all the air intakes (not that theres a lot of it ) absolutely sound. then had an idea its got to be the cat. checked gasses coming out of exhaust seemed fine until I got my neighbour to throttle it. same amout of gas out the back as idle. got ya took the outlet manifold off and noticed that the cat had broken up into a perfect ball and was blocking the exhaust. I now have a de-catted landy that pulls like a beast. now alls I need to do is find out why someone has clipped its wings and

Tbh, mate, I know nothing about them! ;):) Except that they don't have the best reputation for reliability of all landrovers!
You will find all the common issues have been well covered in the freelander section, or post you queries in there, they will sort you out, they get plenty of practice.:D

older the better I say proper mechanics non of this ecu 55 cpus to control one wheel movement baloney. if it goes forward backward left and right then you have the basics. I just want mine to go forward backwards left and right on any terrain I tell it to. lol

And a Land Rover will do that sometimes.
 
I have a cunning plan. I no ive got the least reliable one out there sooooo if my little lady gets in with the bigger boys then when I get stuck (I no this will be a lot) then my little laddies bigger brothers with there big powerfull winches can help me out lol. im under no illusion that this is going to happen regular lol

Too bad the winches can't solve the problems with that engine.
 
(going to naively try to defend this engine) I've had this engine in 2 cars before one was a rover 25 and the other was a mgzr. now I no they are quite considerably smaller cars although the very first thing I did on them two cars along with this one was change the weak composite head gasket to a steel based gasket. now I no this isn't the only fault with these engines but it is quite a major fault waiting to happen. there are other faults with the engine I no but I look at it like this if you look after your engine your engine will look after you. I Think the k-series gets a lot of flack due to poor design work from the manufacture but if you no about these faults you can to some certain extent protect yourself from them. don't get me wrong I no these engines are a pain in the arse but I don't think they are the worst enginee any one could buy lol

Had one in a Maestro before, and it was fine.:)
