hi all my name is steve and i am a 28yo gardener form milton keynes.
i am looking into buying a range rover classic, i have spotted one i want to go and look at and was wondering what are the common things to look out for?
what are the usual places for them to rust etc...

it is a f reg(89 iirc) with a auto v8, it has had some serious money spent on it over the years.
from what i have seen it has a internal and external roll cage, warn winch, snorkel, big nobbly tyres etc....
it is on my girlfriends neighbours drive and i will be buying it with her 2 brothers and a off road toy and something to tinker with.

heres some snowy pics of her..

the present owner said it feels a bit wobbly over 40mph but isnt sure what it is, could it be the steering gaitor?
also he said the gearbox is a bit dodgy but has another one for it which we can have aswell.
it is currently a none runner.

so what do you guys think?

and whats it worth without no t&t?

cheers

steve

The rangey is worth about £200 max. the cage probably another £200 max so £400 max. check chassis, sills, inner wings footwells and floors. Not really up on Rangies but that should cover it until their lordships arrive after Bitty and afternoon tea. :D

had me bitty...and the butlers out getting fuel again...

drop arm
rear chassis
a pillars.BIG TROUBLE MUST LOOK.LIFT CARPET
BODY Mounts.2 rear 4 front and some sill ones too.
SILLS,pull away trim...A MUST.
footwells
rear arches
boot floor
Seats need to be sweet for mot.
emissions
all the ushall.Brakes etc, check for ball joint seal leaks.

500 quids top price with LPG.
ABOVE ALL CHECK DOCUMENTS CHASSIS NUMBERS AND ENGINE NUMBERS.ALL MUST MATCH AND BE LEGAL.

thanks red hand and beast o bodmin, theres some usefull stuff there.

the fella only wants 500 for it, but as a none runner i am reluctant to pay it.

it has had some big money thrown at it over the years and the cage itself is very extensive.

will be looking at it in the new year.

i bought a landrover earlier this year for only 150 quid thinking it would last me maybe a few weeks. i was still using it a month ago untill my mate broke it. i could get more for selling the wheels on my landy than what i paid for it.
if i were you i would buy it and even if its a lost cause you can still get quite a bit for the parts

hi, thanks again to all who have responded.

i will be looking at the rangey this coming week all being well and i think unless there is anything major wrong with it i should be the proud part owner of her by this time next week.
i will be using all the info on here when i come to veiw it.fingers crossed that it all works out ok and as some have said i think for the money considering the bits it has on it it is a no brainer really.
will keep you posted.
thanks again.
steve

please explain your reasons for staying clear apart from saying it is a money pit..

i dont get it, as others have said theres money in the car in bits and for £500 we will break even at least.
at the end of the day its a v8 on carbs, how hard can it be....

whats so much more fun about a disco than a rangey??

Those BFG MT's gotta be worth something, bloody good tyre them.
I reckon you biggest issue is going to be: partnership deals never work go it alone or forget it.

Hey good onya, did ya get it for ya self or splitting costs with the outlaws. not sure about insurance though, thought it was for offroad toy, do you need insurance for that in UK, not needed over here.
