Had a re-charge done yesterday. Free of charge because it didn't work. However, the book symbol has gone. It must have passed pressure testing etc on the Kwifit super machine.

There is cool air but not the icy cold we seek. My simple mind is saying compressor. Under bonnet pipes are not roasting hot or icy cold. This is an early model so I don't believe that there is a relay to activate the compressor clutch. Fuses seem OK.

Nanocom logs potentiometer faults on both rh and lh blends. My thinking is "Let's get the cold stuff first, then we can decide where it goes".

The system died a couple of years ago pretty instantaneously so I wondered whether the clutch had disengaged to protect the compressor.

Where should I start looking?

Orange light? if it's one on the a/c switch then it's switched off. Do you have power to the dual pressure switch from the HEVA, black/yellow wire, If you power the white/light green wire can you hear the compressor clutch clicking? Best way to access the dual pressure plug is to remove the front grill, slide underneath, remove the plug and poke it through the space above the bumper. Better than messing about under the car.

Hmmm, how knowledgeable was the Kwik-fit guy?

When mine wouldn't take a full charge it was the Thermostatic Expansion Valve, a venturi type thingy on the bulkhead in the engine compartment. Only cost £30 and wasn't difficult to change although not a lot of room so a bit fiddly.

Compressor is the last place to start, there are sensors involved and the compressor clutch to check first.
If the HEVAC is not calling for cold air, you will not get any.

He said the recharge didn't work. However, enough snuck in to clear the book symbol. That's what makes me suspect TXV. He'll hear the compressor kicking in and see the revs drop if it is like mine.

Right. Now back at home and considering the knowledgable responses.

Before exploring them further, I think that the lack of a drive belt might be my first port of call.:eek::eek:

We'll see but, in a roundabout way, it might be a pointer as to how to get an evacuation and recharge for not too much money!

They did mine last year, no cold air so no charge. Got home and checked the connector on the dual pressure switch. Pushed it back on and everything worked. Result. This year I have no power from the hevac to the dp switch but haven't had time to check it out yet.:)

Had a look at RAVE. The allen key used to adjust the tensioner pulley looks like quite a big boy.

Any idea of its size and what does six pound foot feel like as I won't be buying a mini torque wrench for a one-off?

IIRC the pulley is plastic. It is sort off off-set so as it twists it moves up and that gives the belt tension. It doesn't take a lot though so it is all fingertips stuff. No need for a torque wrench, just nip it up.

Cannot remember the size. I don't remember having to buy one but I've got a set of keys on sockets, if you get what I mean.

Yep, pulley is on an eccentric mount. No idea of the Allen key size but I had one in my standard kit.
