When you say a large trailer how large are you thinking of? you can tow an unbraked trailer with a MGW of 750kg or a braked trailer of approx 1.4tonnes MGW behind a 90. Not sure what the Max Gross Weight is on a wide TRACK Sankey but I'd be surprised if it was more than 1.4tonnes.
 
right just done a quick google and the widetrack sankey has the following tech specs.

This means that you can legally tow a widetrack sankey without needing a class B+E on your licence.
 
kev, that's because we're old gits. We're allowed to tow trailers and drive 7.5 tonne trucks on our car licences. The youth of today have to take an additional test in order to tow or drive anything with a tacho. I had to get a digital tacho driver card though, £38 but no test.

I had no Idea you need to get another licence to use a trailer or even drive a truck , Both of which ive been doing for awhile lol ..
When did they change the law lol ..

1997 I believe. If yer past yur test before then you can tow upto 3.5tonnes and drive a 7.5tonne rigid truck with a 750kg trailer behind it. giving a max weight of 8.25tonnes. yer can drive a 16 seater minibus as well :)
 
I was told this also the other day by somone, can't remember who but apparently if you have passed your test after 1997 you cannot legally drive a 110 or 130 hicap because it can have a MAM above 3500Kg is that true??

Looking on the quoted stats the MAM is 3500Kg so mabe thats how they get around it just on the limit!. Jai
 
EEK the pink paper says 1987 .. :rolleyes: I guess im ok lol .. Can barely remember the driving test apart from being told i past . Then Half hour later letting rip in my MK1 K reg Capri what a car lol ..

Will be dragging my camping trailer back from Devon.So if you want to put some of your gear on board with me you are quite welcome,as i am travelling solo.I am also classified as an old git so am licensed to tow.

You don't, as I'd imagine you passed your test before 1997. I needed a Driver's digital tacho card, in order to occasionally hire a 7.5 tonne truck for business use. For private hire you don't need to drive on tacho - YET.
Easy to get the card if you've got a photo driving licence, just fill in a form and send £38 and DVLA send you a photo licence bit like your ordinary driving licence, but it's got a smart chip on it, just insert it into the tacho in the lorry and off you go, no more poncing around with paper tacho discs.
 
Hey Spydie, sounds like your motor is taking shape!

Thanks to all who helped out with clearing my cupboards of meat and alcohol this evening. Was a really cool evening with good company. Actually ended up with more beer in the fridge than when I started but I promise I will give that the necesssary attention over the next few days!
 
Them tacho cards come in well handy, i've used mine as ID for stuff as well. Great when your stuck in Cornwall and the cash machine has just eaten your card and you have to get cash over the counter.
