Hi, I'm new here and I have a huge problem.
I have a Freelander 2 07 plate bought from Gordon lamb and one of the cylinders has gone, something to do with the crank? Our very good family friend is the mechanic (I know very little about cars as you will tell) and he has always looked after our cars. He has suggested a new engine or get rid.
We have had no end of problems with this car, we bought it second hand 2.5 years ago. When I got it the air con wasn't working so they filled it up for me. I thought nothing more of it and continued on my way. It then ran out again and my friend said he'd fill it up only to find that there was a huge leak and the whole air con system needed replacing £500 mates rates. It has also since we got it had moments where all of the electrics have turned off, turning the sat nav off, the radio and resetting the clock to the wrong time. While it was under warranty we took it back and they couldn't find any fault with it so yet again I went on my merry way. The warranty ran out and we never renewed it HUGE MISTAKE!!! It was after the warranty ran out that we found out about the air con system.
The car then went into my friends garage a week or so ago for two new tyres and I mentioned that I could hear a noise like there was a leaf crunching under the accelerator. So he had a look and couldn't believe there was half a litre of oil left in but the oil light never came on at all. Not sure if that had something to do with the electrics being dodgy or not. I feel a total fool and very upset as I don' have money to throw around. I also feel I must have inherited someones else problems and they got rid of it at the right time....to me! We have the car serviced and MOT'd and there has been no sign of oil leaking on our drive etc. It doesn't do long journeys I probably drive 7,000 miles pr year. So after my very long message I'm wondering if the best option is to get a new reconditioned engine put in or do I cut my losses and run. And advice would be greatly appreciated. I will really miss her as well.
