This morning my normally very reliable 1988 110 County deceided she had had enough. I tried starting her and not joy. I have checked the battery and there is plenty of juice and the ignition coil is working fine. Yesterday I was cruising up and down the beach and she was purring away. Today there is no life in her.

Help me please as it has me and my mechanic friend completely confused.

Have you got a dizzy full of sand or water ,have you got spark? Are you getting fuel to the carb? Is the air filter full of damp or sand?

Hi no sand in the dizzy, NOT getting a spark. Getting fuel and air no problem. I think the issue is with the ignition circuit.

Your help is greatly apreicated

Thanks

Follow the trail back, HT lead, coil, leads to coil, etc... Will be somewhere along that route.

Really, your mechanic friend sounds to be about as useful as a gaylander in a puddle!

If you are sure the coil is working and the starters turning the engine over, all thats left is HT lead, distributer, rotor, leads and plugs. Working backwords put an old plug in one of the leads and turn it over. If theres a good spark its fuel, no spark, leads or rotor or condenser. Simples:)

Hi, thanks for that, there was no spark, leads are good, rotor is fine condenser is good. Some where the electric's are the problem I think. Its just confusing how one day its working fine then the next day its dead!

what dizzy fitted? DLM8 with ignition module?
So many variables that require more info.
Mine wouldnt start t'other day, ignition amp on side of dizzy goosed. New amp reset timing and it goes like **** off a shovel now.

Hi Dave

Yes its the DLM8. I will try the ignition amp and see if that works. What other info can I provide?

Thanks

Marcus

nothing really just helps us to help you if you can give as much detail about set up as possible.
Genuine leads, rotor, cap? if these were suspect it would probaly just run ****e unless the carbon bush in the cap has gone!
points or leccy dissy as we've now found out.

Taken cap off and checked dissy turning on cranking?
Get engine to top dead centre and checked rotor arm in no1 postion on cap?
Take plug off amp, have you got 12v on terminals in lead?
thats what led me to swap amp
Like i said mine was cranking okay just not firing, i was lucky i had a spare amp in the garage so thought i would change it and away it went.
