I'd try and get an auto-electrician to plug a 'Test-book' , Autologic or Rovercom device into the OBDC plug to interrogate all the ECUs , it'll give you a good indication of stored or pending fault codes for example in the engine management or gearbox computers. My local autospark charges about £25 for a full diasgnostic check which only takes about 10 mins but well worth it for peace of mind as these cars are riddled with sensors and other electronis components. Hope this helps.

£8995 seems pretty expensive for a 97 vehicle that has done 144k - yes the engine may have been changed, but so what - many of the 4.6's have! There are loads around at the moment going cheap. I'd take my time and make sure you get the right one at the right price otherwise you could end up loosing a lot of money. Oooh, just read it is cat D too, ok, maybe it is not the same as a right-off, but that does seriously affect the value of a car.

Matt.

Thanks folks for the info, will report back on what happens, anymore info for a new buyer would still be appreciated.

Check out my sign off, I will be selling mine shortly for c.£8.5k. Its a 98 S DHSE which for that year was a limited edition to 600 examples - http://www.rrr.co.uk/P38/Models.htm (for spec) - It has all the below on it, the only things that need to be looked at are a re-con on the air con ready for the summer (blows cold now but needs it doing) and at some point over the next 10k or so it will need a nearside front wheel bearing. Other than that it has had £1500 spent on the air susp including compressor and bags, recent Pirelli Scorion Zeros, retrimmed pillars etc, new discs and pads, PSI performance tuning box (can be removed if necessary), has had new exhaust etc. Full colour coding from factory, sidesteps, electric seats (in good condition), 2 prev owners, T & T, FSH, full RR rubber and carpet mats etc. Will take more pics when able. This is gorgeous and even the dealers say how well kept it is etc. 2 small dents, 1 parking, 1 in rear nearside wing (like 50p sizes), no real stone chips, basically it is my baby. Forgot to say, does c.33mpg on the motorway and pulls really well with the PSI box, uses hardly any oil.

Check my posts, you can see what I have reported wrong and what I have done about it. Better to buy from someone who loves his car enough to go onto forums etc. Better the devil you know.........

Looks like I may be able to get a new shape or RR Sport with my new job (I am a lucky man!!)
