I am about to replace my fuel pump and was wondering if anybody had any online resources or advise before I start. The only thing I have is an old haynes manual that really doesn't go into much detail.
thanks,
jay

Do you need to replace the whole pump, or just the diaphragm?

The diaphragms are quite readily available ... says he, having not bought one for a few years! ... it used to be a standard part.

I just received the new one in the mail and it doesn't look too complicated unless I need to move a shaft or something. Do I just pop it on? Can't be that easy... I didn't look for a replacement diaphragm but didn't see anything like that listed on the site I used. I think it's time for a new one but if the hoses don't match up I might try to find one rather than finding whatever the hell it's called that I would need.

Hello Salve,

it's very simple to do...
You'll be fine. You shouldn't encounter the usual rusted on nuts and other Series ball aches either! I did mine recently in 30 mins.

Worth getting a step (spare wheel) to stand on for ease of access when undoing the fasteners. As well as removing air filter box. When retightening I found it easier to get under the vehicle and do it that way. Some of these old boys moan about doing up the bolt closest to the bulkhead ;-) easy from underneath!

I accidentally removed a connector to the solenoid while doing this, I had decided to fit a new coil at the same time so I caused myself a minor faff before I noticed! Watch for that one...

Less than an hour of easy maintenance...

Thanks man that's good to hear. This problem has been popping up since I bought the beast and the previous owner couldn't fix it either.
