Have just traced these interior light wires (pic right - red and blue) back to the switch. The switch is a double (press down for interior lights/up for instrument lights) switch is working and so are the interior lights....
Please help. Where do I put the red and blue wires???? And how????

So whats the problem?

No the lights aren't working. This is a new cable run by a previous owner who had a maplin courtesy light contraption attached under the dash. I cut out the faulty extra and just needed to know where the remaining cables should go into the original switch? The switch is good and the cables are good. Just don't know which hole to poke which wire into!!!!

Looking at the 1987 wiring diagram, red and red white are the dash illumination colours. Purple is the interior light power feed. As the red and blue wires are a later addition, you need to find which one is the power feed for the interior light. You should only really need one, the other side of the interior light should be wired to earth. At a guess, the switch might put the power through to the purple/white - thats where your red for the light might go. If the PO hasn't wired the other side of the interior to a nearby earth, that's likely what the blue should be wired to. A test lamp or multi meter will make life much easier - and more tools are always good!

Just found another wiring diagram which agrees with the above - purple/white is the one to connect your internal light to. The solid purple is the power in/supply.

Excellent thank you zeaphod.
Lights now done!!!! Totally amazing..... I know it's silly to get excited about interior lights but its the little things that make the difference!!!
Thank you very much xxxx
