HELP!!! What is this and do i need it?

This item is sitting next to my air filter housing, it isnt screwed on or mounted, just hangs down. Only 1 of the 3 tubes is connected, as you can see by the photos i hold the other 2 up and show which one is connected.
So, what is it, should they all be connected, and whats its purpose?

The part looks a EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) control solenoid.
This would only be installed on certain models with a conventional diesel injection system.
 
One would go to the EGR valve, on the manifold, last in the series of pictures, as to the others, sorry I dont know, your local land rover dealer service department should be able to help.

Now theres a funny thing. Im putting a blanking plate on the egr valve this week, so am i right in thinking this item would then become redundant anyway?
 
Its a little Packard Bell DSC 400, and i can highly recommend it as a superb digital camera. Does video as well, superb little thing.
