Hi all,

My mates 2004 td5 defender has had a major electrical failure. His dipbeam, rear demister, dials/speedo etc, electric windows and air con have all suddenly died. We have checked fuses and relays and they are all good. Does anyone know if these are connected or what I could check next?

Thanks for all your advice!

Put another 50p in the air filter ...

Get hold of a wiring diagram and trace all go those circuits back to their power source, see if there is a common feed. You say you have checked all the fuses and relays, have you got power to them?

As above^^^

And clean earths make a difference.
Not sure if any circuits are connected. Any lights maybe usually each side not both, but the other’s probably not.

Take 1 at a time, wet cruddy, green connectors, switches and earths.

Good luck.
Oh and welcome:)

Hi all checked all the fuses my sight and all appeared ok, I checked them all again with a volt meter to be sure and found one dead one. Once repaired this sorted it all out. Bloody fuses every time! Thankyou everyone for your help

and the fuse in question was ?
Hi I'm TOgbourne's friend with the defender.
It was one of the 5amp fuses in the centre block (behind the gearstick). The fuse diagram on the back of the cover had an icon of a book. I'll look it up in the manual when I get home from work.
