hi every one.. I have a p38 1995 with electrical discharge problems.. after some research i discovered that it may be down to the RFR picking up a stray wifi signal.. I disconnected the RFR gizzmo in the boot and went to restart her only to be met with a resounding clunk!!! i have 12.5 volts across the battery have reconnected the RFR and still no luck.. any ideas???

you need to update to the latest version, mine will not start if you remove the RF unit completely, try just disconnecting the blue lead for now

Hi Johnny, yes i have 12.5 across the terminals. the key sync im not sure? the dash board comes alive when the key is in...

with every error message in history momentarily flashing up on the dash.. then it settles down. just put that down to normal rangie quirks..

I'd start by looking at your battery - get in on a trickle charge overnight, sounds like low voltage

Mine did was the same - did exactly what you are saying, even though battery showed 12.6V

also if the battery is even just a little low (I'd done a lot of short trips) then you will get Gearbox Fault, quick charge again and error goes away :)

I have just charged the battery overnight, i think its a tonka toy dud battery anyway. ive put it back on this morning only to be met again with the same problem. If i didnt know better it sounds like a bad earth but apart from the battery terminal which is a good earth i havent touched any others... may have to look at the key sync business.

**awaits Datatek to chip is with Biggest Battery info**

You need a good battery, P38 doesn't like low voltage

also if you disconnect the blue wire on the RF unit locking and unlocking usually only happens when you are stood near the rear quater of the car - any further away and you won't be able too ;-)

just done the key sync process and still nothing... gonna have to do some head scratching me thinks.... ive put my van battery across with jump leads ( huge battery!!) and still nothing. i think that should be as though the battery is connected directly to the rangie? am i right?

Might help if you said what model it is. Only thing you disconnect from the RF receiver is the blue aerial wire not the entire power plug.

Hi all, its a 4.6 hse. 1995 i did disconnect both the blue wire and the other group of wires. When i turn the key the whole engine lurches from the force of the torque from the starter motor but it wont turn over, but it was running 30 secs and lovely too i might add prior to disconnection of the RF unit..??????

It sounds to me as if your starter motor is stuck on the ring gear.
You could try;
rocking the car forward and back as hard as you can
smacking the starter with something large heavy and non-metallic
if manual, a bump start.

If it's an auto you can rock until you are blue in the face. Giving the starter a tap may release it as you say. Anyway as the starters are the pre engaged type it should not matter, it should still turn the engine. Then get thrown back out when it starts. Maybe the starter is down on a winding.
