I own a 2001 freelander 1.8 petrol and the car has recently started to struggle to go into gear when the engine is running. When. The engine isnt running it goes into gear with no problem.

Confused

Can anyone give some advice?

Clutch is dragging or isn't releasing properly, depending upon mileage it may just be worth getting the complete clutch and release bearing replaced.

If the car is giving you this much problem I suggest you sell it and buy a new one. If you don't know what a clutch does, buy an auto.

Make sure the engine mounting bolts are alright. The engine hangs on them, and if one is loose or broken that can give clutch problems.

It's not insured and on a SORN at the moment so looks like it still exists - contact DVLA and give them a few quid and I believe they will tell you who the owner is.

Even though you've hijacked the thread it can be done https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...an-individual-for-information-about-a-vehicle

Being a previous owner may be deemed a 'reasonable cause' - if you don't try you wont know!
