I've got a 2003 Freelander SE 45,000 miles...very good condition, except for the fact that the engine ceased to function about a week ago, after having invested £1,500 in repairs a month ago. At this point, it doesn't make financial sense to replace engine- local mechanic recommends a second hand engine, but there's no telling how long that will last!

What to do now? How can I go about finding someone who is interested in buying an engine-less LR? Or is it best to consider a charity donation?

Any ideas would be appreciated! thanks.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I'd be going down the ebay route I think. Some silly prices get paid on there, you could always then donate some of the proceeds to charity if you wanted to, once you have recouped some of your loss

We got just under £900 for our ' engineless' 2001 v6 on Ebay earleir this year .. The body was immaculate with 4 new scorpio tyres also ..I think the buyer shipped it to Poland :p

@countrywrench-- that's wonderful...I shall look into ebay!

To answer Singvogel:
> Engine: its a 2.5 litre, V6, petrol. One correction from my original posting, it's a Freelander HSE (not SE).
>Repairs recently done: change of water pump (we had noticed the coolant bottle go down a bit every week or so) - after topping-up a few times, since losses continued we took it for check-up. Garage also recomended change of timing belt and other things, which we did.
>New problem: one day car did not start. Engine would make odd noise, no turning or starting. My husband thought the starting motor had given up, but diagnostic from garage was that water got into the carter, cam-shaft was damaged, engine was done.

So, despite good care, low mileage and zero off-roading, the sturdy land rover gave up.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

without being a pervayor of doom the k series are notorious, so you want to weigh up bombing it out and buying something else v chance on an unreliable engine design that has numerous failures.

Update! Sold on ebay within hours of posting ad...guy plans to convert it to left side steering and taking it to Georgia.

Thanks to all for feedback and insights!
