help please crankshaft bolt snapped! :(

Hi im seeking help please,,

I was trying to do my water pump and every bolt and nut that i have come across so far has been torqued up FT!

My dilemma is that on undoing the crankshaft bolt it snappped!!!

can anyone give me some advice on how to remove the remaining part of the bolt oh by the way it is the 1.8 k series engine.

Can i remove the crankshaft sprocket (if so how??) and then get some grips on it or wind another nut on to it once the sprocket is off?

Please someone help.

Ouch. Think that's a drill out job. Try to drill it and get an extractor in there but that bolt is gonna be bloody hard to drill! If you remove the pulley is there much hanging out of the engine? Could you get an extractor on there or weld a bar or something on there? Better get advice before welding in case the heat breaks something, but the heat could also help free it.

Just remember a litre of petrol is only £1.28 and a box of matches can't be much nowadays....
 
That's been over tightened. It's broken just inside the crank nose so using an easy out is the safest route to take. They are 12.9 grade bolts so it's going to be hard to drill!!

Thanks for the replies, I was using a breaker bar with a 22mm socket. On the plus side I have now managed to get it out!!!! Yay. I managed to use a centre punch and knock it around and it came out. Took a while but it is out now :)

Good Man !!! Suprising what you can achieve with a good old hammer, centre punch and patience !!!
I have removed more broken bolts/studs that way than using a screw extractor-the problem with those is that you have to have enough space to get an electric drill into it.

i imagine the bolt was a tad long for the hole and bottomed out when it was tightened, check the depth of the hole against your new bolt before you refit.
