Help Please 2001 Range Rover

Guys, can you please help please? I have a 2001 Range Rover and the becm is bad. I have a wire techinician that can bypass the problem i am having. The problem is that my left side parking lights will not cut off. Would you recommend that or getting a new bcm.

a new bcem needs to be mated wiv the old one before fitting,

yeah i know but would it be better to bypass or get a new programmed bcm for $2000

Replacing the BeCM

Steven Norman, who runs an independent Land Rover shop and uses a T4/TestBook, reports that he has successfully performed BeCM replacement quite frequently without consulting the factory. Some reprogramming is required, however. The following summarizes the issues involved.

1. Engine Remobilization Code
If the BeCM has to be replaced, the shop manual states that the new BeCM will still automatically transmit the correct engine remobilization code to the ECM -- this code is unique to the vehicle.

2. Central Locking Codes
The BeCM uses a code taken from a 14 digit lockset bar code, programmed into the BeCM at the factory, and compares it with the code transmitted by the remote handset. If you replace the BeCM, the same lockset code will have to be programmed in. The official manuals imply this can only be done at the factory, and furthermmore that if a new lockset is required, then the BeCM must be replaced with a new one programmed at the factory with the correct new code. However, rumor has it that in actuality replacement BeCMs can be reprogrammed if you have a Rovacom system or similar, and in all probablility the existing BeCM can be programmed to accept a new lockset code if you replace the locks.

3. EKA Code
Aidan reports that when replacing a BECM it asks for the code, In countries (Europe) where this feature is enabled the original code is presumably used; in other countries (Australia, North America and ???) a null # is inputted (1515).

i know one person on here has rovacom, irishrover i think, and maybe he can loock into whether it works via rovacom and then all you need is a becm from some source, can second hand be used???

Main Dealers Test Book cannot access the CPU in the BECM, and in any event they want to sell you a new one. The lockset code does not need to be obatained and can be read from an unlocked BECM. People seem to think that Test Book solves everything-you are wrong, it cannot, it cannot read or alter settings in a locked unit.Chances are that either a mosfet or other discrete has failed. As Gav has suggested, contact Mtechuk. I have the software for the BECM Direct Memory access but am waiting for interface lead to arrive from Cyprus. There are Rovacom users in the U.S. with the kit, I'll try and dig deeper for you.

There could be a possibility that someone in West Seattle, Washington may be able to help. As soon as I get news back, I will post a reply to this string.
