Well he has payed up £500 towards getting it repaired
Goes into a garage the family use who happens to have came from working on land rovers backround and is a specailist
Had a quote from a suppose to be cheap local independent garage
Guy quoted me £1800 to do the full rear braking system worst case
Thought he was having a laugh as there's a company down south that do the same job for £1000 including vat

+1, but prices have changed so much. I did my friends brakes on his Transit in November. Discs, pads, drums, shoes and two rear cylinders cost me £270. No labour charged but he put in some land drains for me, I think I got the better part of the deal :D

Compared to some of the other LR models, the P38 is not that bad if it's looked after:)

LR seem obsessed with unecessary electronic gizmo's:eek:

i've not long gained a P38 2.5 manual, just trying to locate a replacement gearbox for it without getting stiffed as mine has lost 5th and reverse gears, i'm looking forward to driving it
it's the first RR i've ever owned

i'll definitely agree with landrover being obsessed with electronic gizmos, every RR/Disco/Gaylander/Ewok i get in at work has more or different functions

You thought about rebuilding it? 5th and reverse are at the back of the box so that's the place to start looking. I have most used parts for the "D" type gearbox if you go down that path. Regards:)

Could be something as simple as the 5th/reverse selector fork :)

i downloaded rave the other day and am considering opening the box up but trying to find the information for stripping the box in the rave manual is proving to be slow

With the transfer box removed, take off the rear extension housing and your problem should be revealed. 5th/reverse work off the same selector fork so a problem in that area looks favourite :):)
