:confused:Only last week i spent 17.5k on a Freelander 2 from a LR Dealer. I did this with hesitation as i used to own a 1.8 Freelander ( the ones with the problems) a few years ago and couldnt wait to get rid of it. However i picked the car up and it was fine. The following day i drove it to town and heard a really loud screaming / screetching noise coming from the engine. It was so bad i stopped and called LR Assist. Recovery arrived and told me that they had never seen or had this problem before and were baffled at what it might be. I was told that it was safe to drive and to book a appointment with my dealer. The following day on the drive down to the garage no sound was heard it was perfect. The mechanics were baffled and thought i was making it up i think. They put a scethoscope on the engine and told me that the idler pully was chirping at bit and that it would be covered under warranty. Any way i booked it in for next week and it has been fine no noise whatsoever.
Fast forward to today. The garage has told me that it is a 7.5hr repair and i wont get the car back til tommorow now and that its only the second time they have done such a repair.
So. What do you guys think?
Firstly i have no idea what has gone wrong as i am not mechanically minded?. And secondly should i be satisfied that the vehicle needs such a repair after only 1week of ownership?
The car has only done 18k

If you have a warranty why worry? Let them sort it out the more new parts the better...

tell em to keep it,get your money back and buy a 2ldi,and with the money you save buy all the britool spanners youll ever need, a good jack,an engine hoist, ball joint splitter some other tools.
Or buy a disco2 or a trattor.I wouldnt take that pile o ****e fl2 back.
No doubt, youll get better advice from many others.

Three reasons for the bearing going

(i) misuse
(ii) poor quality original part, or
(iii) something else is out of line causing it to go.

Unfortunately no quick way of telling unless you wait until it goes again by which time the warranty will be out.

There is a clue in the garage admitting they have only seen it once before especially at that mileage. They don't often go so something is causing it...........

Had the car sat a while on the forecourt and the bearing dried up/ rusted maybe? At that price it doesn't sound like an old car.

Maybe the ad is misleading, the only thing i can see wrong is its an auto,it says it has rear seat belts, nothing about seats, tax and insurance would be expensive but for half the money manimal paid he could have bought this Land Rover Discovery  should have gone to sex savers

Nothing wrong with a FL. Many of us who criticize it, have one. For every car you can find a better alternative. But that's not the point here.

It's the LR Dealers that I f*****g hate. As soon as you walk into their shop its gonna cost you thousands. When the head gasket on my FL went (oil drained in coolant) , I stupid enough had it moved to the LR Dealer. Straight away they told me it needed a new engine, without looking at it.

And when I walked to their workshop I saw them DRIVING it into the shop. Without any oil in it ! The Tw*ts

The guy I bought it from sorted it for £700.

In other words, stay away from LR Dealers ! :puke2:
