I took my new series III out for her first run today and whenever i change into 4th gear she SCREAMS at me the whole time i accelerate, but she's fine when i take my foot off the throttle. She's my first landie and i went for a challenge straight off. My knowledge is very limited but i got the bug by helping a mate with his series III.

Cheers for any help guys,

Stu

Let me just check this when in 4th and only 4th and you accelerate it makes a bad noise but if you let off the throttle it goes quiet. If this is so it sounds like you have a bearing going. Did it just start or was it like this when you bought it. ?

1st have you checked the gearbox oil level ? May be its been run dry....
Or its running dry. If there is no oil at all in there then you may be lucky if you get it filled. The oil level is checked on the side of the gearbox its a square plug. Take it out and dip ya small finger in and down see if there is any oil. Check its not white. If it is you need to drop the oil and put in new. White means water and oil mix. if there is oil in there and its fine then it sounds like you need to take the box out and fix or replace it. Not a nice job.....:(

Unfortunately i checked the oil level and it was full to the brim, so i guess that means a new gearbox. Oh well such is life eh:(

Stu.

P.S. Anyone now what the red light below the switches on the series III is for? Mine is on all of the time.

You have my simpathy mate I did mine in the garage at work with all the tools needed and more but it was still a s*it to do. Then when I got going down the road with the second hand one in it whines in 1st 2nd 3rd but not forth. The layshaft bearings are on there way. Oh well such is life....

But it has done about 2000miles like that so far....
Its like heaven when you finaly get 4th gear you can speak to your passanger again.....lol
