Hi
I am a new member to landyzone forum today because I enjoy reading all the great information from all the other Land Rover members it is a great source of help and technical details.
I have a discovery 2 td5 which is a X plate auto with 126576 on the clock , I have owned it from last October . It is my little project / toy to play about with at the weekends And also it will be used to tow a boat come the summer.
I have just got a problem with the some for of noise coming from behind the steering wheel area when it has warmed up on road driving. It is like a high pressure leak noise ??? But not a constant noise comes and goes . But today it has some form of smoke or steam coming up for behind the steering column. It is not a electrical fire smell as I know that type of smell it looks like possible steam leak ??? I want to know if anyone can point me in the correct direction to find the source of my problem. Any help would be great .

I think I might be loosing fluid as I had to top up the radiator expansion tank up, and seen a drip coming inside the driver side wheel arch area from a cable cover type hose .
It has been to cold to under it and trace the cable cover but I think it comes from the expansion tank.
I live near Balloch.

Expansion tank loss, could well be the cap on the tank itself, they fail over time.

If you put a small drink bottle on the expansion tank overflow tube for a few days you may see the fluid escape. Caps are cheap as chips.

Cheers

Could be the egr cooler pipe from the expansion tank as they at prone to leak??

Does the early one not have a cooler pipe??

Hi
I had a look today and found the source of the noise and smoke .
After running the car for about 20 minutes and when the temperature gauge moves to the middle of the gauge the noise started . I looked under the steering wheel via the hatch and seen steam and water coming from two down pipes which are held in place by a clamp plate and is supplied via the the engine bay and only the right hand side was leaking . These pipes feed the heater unit I think ???? Any ideas ?
Would upload a picture but not sure how to do it.
Thanks Gordon
