How does the automatic rear view mirror adjust and what can I do if it doesn't?

If the feature exists in the vehicle then the auto-dimming for both rear-view & door mirrors is triggered by a photo-cell in the rear-view mirror.

There's 2 sensors. One in the glass and one in the back

Check that the liquid inside doesn't leak out, if it does it will permanently stain the dash top.

I've cleaned the sensor on the mirror, but I can't find the one on the back. The mirror has power but it doesn't work.
From Grrrrr's post I gather that a replacement is not cheap. Oh well.

Unfortunately, scrappers here in the US don't have many Land Rovers in the yard.
