Morning all, a new member after a little advice. I have recently moved from being a londonboy to country bumpkin. Hence wanting a 4X4. Now dont hate me but ive been looking at Jap Pickups but keep coming back to the Defender as its just iconic. My question is. i will literally be using it for the school run to the next village which is about a 4 mile round trip then i will throw the dogs in the back to take them out for a spin & a run in the fields, maybe followed by a trip to the pub etc, so really no mileage at all but just sauntering down the lanes. Yes, i could get something fancy with Aircon & all the modcons, but i just fancy getting back to basics and having a giggle. I know it may be noisy and cold in the winter but i dont give a monkeys. So, i have found a 1999 td5 6 seater Hardtop at an independant dealer for £8k with 33000 on the clock. Does this sound about right & what should i look out for?. In the photo's it absolutely immaculate in white with grey decals. I will probably go and have a look tomorrow so it would be nice to have some ammunition & knowledge so as not to make a complete tit of myself. Any advice greatly appreciated. cheers J

Buy the landrover, but only of your prepared to wave/ wave back at other landrovers.
If you don't wanna wave then a landrover is not for you:D
To be fair you could do all that in any normal car.
Don't listen to reason, get the landrover:D

I wont mind waving i'm a friendly kind of chap :) I doubt any normal car m8. Ive got 3 bulldogs & a great dane so will need something a little special, if you know what i mean..Here's another reason the LR is making sense to me, one minute i could be dropping the kids of next i could load up the dogs then just have a sweep out & a quick sponge down...

Just a quick update. I went to see the Defender yesterday and fell in love immediately. Its a 99plate in fairly good nick, a few spots of rust but it all adds to the flavour. Had a bit of a haggle with the vendor and got £600 knocked off the price. So iv'e now got her sitting on the drive outside the house & i'm completely chuffed. Even driving it home yesterday at 60mph on the M25 i was grinning like a cheshire cat. As i pulled into my village what was coming towards me was another defender and we both immediately waved, so i guess im part of the family now..Will try & gets some photo's and post later on...Happy Days ahead..J

Welcome. Big smiles time eh.

What security do you have? Do a search on here for tips. They are quite nickable.

Dislok
Clutch claw
Locking wheel nuts
Alarm or tracker

Cheers for the welcome. It has an alarm, but nothing else. I have a halfords near me, also a land rover dealer so i shall pop out & pick something up....Just been out to have a good look over her & just realised she doesnt have an expansion tank cap, how i missed that yesterday i dont know...I hope i havn't missed something very obvious considering my complete lack of Landy knowledge...Guess i will learn as i go along
