Hi all,

A little guidance if you please. 200Tdi Def 90 (92). Clutch pedal has started having no resistance for approx 2/3 of travel (just feels like return spring resitance). Hydraulic action is limited and gets worse after a journey to the point where I cant select gear.

Landrover suggested new clutch at £600 but it feels more like a hydraulic prob, but I'm no expert. Fluid level is OK and hasn't dropped (maybe 6-7mm from max line.)

Fitted new exhaust recently (SS) which has no heat shield below the slave cylider, though it's not that close. Could this be causing the prob...or have damaged the rubbers/seals?

Any ideas...not sure how I will get home! Thankyou very much all.

wouldn't have thought so. If the hydraulics start off ok then get worse with use and your not loosing fluid it sounds more like master cylinder seals on their way out.

Thanks, is there a way I can tell Master or slave cylinder problems apart? Prob best to change both if I'm going to upset the system?

Master cylinder int that difficult to change all things considered, bleeding the fecker is a right bollock ache though. Master cylinder costs about £12 from Paddocks IIRC... change that first and see if it fixes it.

Have you ever changed the clutch fluid on it? If not and it's been in the a good long while it'll have absorbed a fair bit of water over time - your new exhaust might, if it's close enough and hot enough, boil the water out of the clutch fluid causing a vapour lock in the clutch line and the symptoms you're describing. It's a long shot, but try just changing the fluid for some brand new (don't use the 2 year old stuff that's been sitting in the shed, buy some more). Can't guarantee it'll do any more than waste your time, but it's a sight easier than changing the master cylinder.

Cheers,

Whilst i buy a lot of gear off Paddock I wouldn't buy thir budget hydraulic bits or UJs as they are a false economy and I ended up doing both jobs twice. twice.

Bought the lucas/girling versions from them, but they don't come stamped Lucas girling anymore? and are very cheaply made (master cylinder anyway) slave was stamped and a much better quality item. Significant improvement on replacing master clinder and flushing through.....incredible muck came out rather than nice clean fluid!

But has gone back how it was on the way to work thins morning...bugger! Was fine on 10 mile test drive yesterday...
