Hi all
Bought a 2005 Freelander TD4 HSE Automatic in March... I am having to sell due to decline in my health... However, just as I want to advertise it's decided to have problems.
Basically it starts fine, the revs go up and down and unless I keep revs really high it's just dying. I had it serviced a couple of weeks ago, battery is fine, they said the computer showed something to do with the fuel. Could it be a fuel blockage? Just want to sell it! HELP (Sorry for lack of technical explanation!o_O)
 
The fuel rail sensor connectors being corroded is the common cause of odd running issues, so that's the place to start looking.

You also need to find out why the MIL was on, as it shouldn't be on.

Was the MIL on when you bought it?
 
Thank you, do you have any idea how much I should be quoted for the fuel sensor? (I seem to get ripped off) plus want to know of it's worth getting sorted before selling or just cut my losses.
Re the MIL, no wasn't on when I bought it. It's not on constantly, just flashes on and off occasionally
 
It's likely to be the rail sensor, probably corrosion on the contracts. It's not a difficult or costly job to clean them, but if the sensor needs replacing, then it's about £100 and normally needs a replacement harness for it, which is another £50, and an hour or so of garage time to fit it.

Put the car on Ebay, as the FL1 is still popular and get good prices, even for piles of junk.

One more question, then I'll leave you alone If I don't get it fixed what should I look at getting for it. It's in otherwise great condition, Through MOT in March, new service and only got 82k miles on it. Thank you

Condition and spec is the primary things that affects the value on the FL1.

An MOTd poor condition low spec model can be worth a few hundred £. A really nice condition Facelift HSE generally sell for upwards of £2000, but it needs to be nice to get that money.

Ebay will generally get you more than selling on Marketplace. In fact I know of a couple of small time dealers that buy them on Marketplace, do a few small repairs to improve them, then sell them on via Ebay for a decent profit.
