Hi all,

Came across the site and have had a little look through so thought I'd sign up and say hello. Not new to forums as I use them for my bikes as well as when I had my VW.

Since having my VW van stolen from my drive (the scum broke in and took the key  ), the long haired general and I have decided that we want a Land Rover Defender 110 TD5. With the short term plan of doing some UK bound trips for a year or two before venturing further afield to somewhere like Morocco.

Have to go for the TD5 as I'm only a couple of miles outside the London Low Emission zone. I don't drive into town often but certainly don't want to fork out £100 when I do.

Going for Land Rover over other makes as I used, abused and feel in love with them when I was in the army. I'm not hugely machanical but have a couple of good mates who are.

The Landy wont be used as a daily as such as she has a Saab and I get use of a work pool car and have a couple of motor bikes. So it'll mainly be used for trips, a bit of green laning/off roading as well as getting us about in the snow.

Any ways, that's me. I look forward to being an owner in the near future and maybe catching up with some of you at some local events (to start with) :5bcheers2:

Thanks for the welcome all!!

Yeah the 110 will be the silver lining to my dark cloud, and yes, security is above all else on my list of thing to do. Most importantly a Safe in the house as my van had and alarm, immobiliser and disk lock (fitted) but all was useless when they had the keys in their hand.

Optimus, where abouts are you? I'm living in Swanley at the moment with a plan to buy near by later in the year. Once I have the 110 the chick and I be looking at doing some green lanes etc near by. So if you know/can recommend any it'd be appreciated?

not too far from the notorious dartford heath...

not many lanes in this area, found one on the map in eynesford nr. donkey lane, need to find time to recce it on foot before I venture up in my freelander

Thanks again for the welcome guys. Spending ages surfing the site but not contributing much as I don't yet have one parked on my drive. Hopefully not o long until insurance payout then it'll be 110 shopping, no huge rush (other than excitement) for one so I should be able to have a good hunt around.

You're just round the corner from me then really Optimus. There must a some green lanes a bit further south from us though, it's the garden of England! I may get an OS map and have a hunt round so I can try mine out soon after it's arrival.

well, joy of joys, this months issue of LRO has plopped through the door, (July 2011) and on Pages 44-51 there are 26 greelanes listed starting at eynesford (ford) through to tilmanstone near deal.

I personally have done 2 in Cobham, 1 is really well maintained and you could drive it in an astra. the other was also well driveable, managed it in my freelander on road tyres.

PM me if you want the exact locations of these 2.

When I get the exhaust fixed I will have to have a look. Deal only 10 min from mine. If you come down this way I keep the kettle hot

Thanks for the heads up Optimus, not that I have anything with 4 wheels that can go off road yet. I'll be off down the shop in a bit then to pick a copy of LRO for a bit of research!

cheers
