Hippo = Freelander
It was said that during the Freelander press launch one of the reporters said the Freelander looked like a hippo (not me) and LR picked up on this and used it in their advertising.

Cost of insurance, tax, mot etc. Especially if yer banned or have been banned in the past, have no job or just don't want to pay it. Saves yer over £1000 a year. Hence why peeps who make number plates have to put the details on it like post code and you have to show ID and have the log book. This has stopped some of the problems. To get round this they nick your plate so you have to get another and they don't. Some plates shatter when taken oft to stop miss use when nicked.
Nowt wrong with liking Hippo's and Freelander's.As soon as I pressed "post reply" I regretted it!! It was a present someone bought me and I though it was appropriate.

We're not saying they're bad people. But if they don't follow the rules they will get into trouble. It's something all plate suppliers have to follow. It's the people who obtain naughty plates which are the real problem. Focusing on strict rules suppliers have to work too is the tool they're using to fight plate crime.
Once sold they can't control the use of them so they're just covering themselves. Some of them don't make show plates out of the same reflective material to protect themselves further and to limit misuse on the roads. Others will like my set from about 8 years ago which are road legal type, but with Freelander on them only. More difficult to get hold of now which I think is a good thing.
