Briliant Car- crap engine

Just had som emore bad news... took it into the dealership with a misfire... diagnosis.. Engine managment system shot.. cost of replacment £500..

Iam begining to fall out of love with this car..

Well i have never heard of a engine managment system going wrong on a 1.8 i would not go with that diagnosis yet, check out your distbributor cap 1st as these crack and the rotor arm burns out as well, change the plugs 3rd as these are dearer then see what happens disi caps never get checked until 72k same as plugs let me know how you get on,would like to disclose who i work for but best not if you know what i mean.sorry 4 got to say check out king lead as there was a recall on these as they trapped water and went green and nasty.

Had a similar issue while it was under warrenty, they changed the leads and plugs then, this time though it is different, firstly my HDC warning light came on and stayed on for about two days, then it went off as mysteriuosly as it came on, then the engine started reving for no reason and then misfiring on engine breaking when slowing down, they ran (dealership) a diagnostic and found eight faults on the ECU, these where cleared but then came back, showing (to them ) that the ECU was faulty.

it is a mystery.. they hope to have it ready for Tuesday

All we seem to get on here is people having problems with Freelanders.

Are they really that bad? Or is it just the petrol versions.

Has anyone any good stories?
