Hello guys, my name is Max and I’m from Cheshire. I’ve joined the forum after recently purchasing a Discovery 2 (pre- facelift) TD5. Want to try my hand at off- roading but nothing too strenuous!

Hope to find some useful info on here as I’m sure I will. And whilst I’m here I’m after a +2 lift kit if anyone knows of one? Willing to travel to collect :)

Welcome:)

you will find loads of good info here.
Enjoy your new pride and joy:)

Oh I am just over the border too:) Bulgariashire :D
Thank you mate! I’m already have a good look through the forum, some very hand info on here!

Bet there’s some great places for a bit of mud plugging over there!!

Hi and welcome!

Tidy looking disco! I’d agree with holding off from a suspension lift until you think you need one. A better investment would be some decent AT tyres and recovery points. And with a lift kit, your diffs are still the same distance from the ground! Let us know how you get on and don’t forget some pics.

That’s a fair point, thanks for replying. I’d like it to function as well as possible off- road but still be relatively user friendly on the tarmac. I was considering putting an earlier Range Rover spring (drivers front) all the way round as they’re supposedly taller. Then just get some generic +2 shocks - for now at least. From memory it worked well with the Disco 1/ Defender axles... if I come across a half decent Terrafirma +2 kit I’m fairly sure I’ll be having it haha!

You should get matched shocks/springs. Only one and tuther will suffer.

Get out and get it muddy first! Be surprised what a standard Disco can handle. You’ll only need to lift it when you’ve got stupendously sized tyres to fit, like me ;)

The end goal is a set of Insa Turbos but far too expensive for me yet!!

I have two Insas, two coopers.

Insas are loud on the road, don’t like the wet but really good in the mud.

They are old and bald now. Still plenty tread on them though. The Coopers will need replacing before too long, not sure what with. Only had these as they were going cheap from a mate.

If you do find someone that has a set, they will most likely sell them to you, it’s hard to find vehicles they will fit...so no use to most.

Mine won’t fit a standard P38 (32”),
Discos are bit smaller - my mate has 31” on his lifted D1 and can’t turn wheels too much.

That’s what I don’t wanna end up with - no clearance when I do eventually stick some big rubber under it. I don’t want something that looks too OTT, but a +2 with some Insas looks great to me. I’ve seen a few Discos with big body lifts - and I know everyone is different - but I just think they look like they’ve been stuck on top of a set of wheels. But then again what I want to do won’t be to everyone’s taste so it’s one of them! Before anything aesthetic happens I really need to sort the little niggles though. I want it as good as it can be before I do anything else!
