Hi all
I have a land 90 td5 which had bad head lights so decided to buy a light bar from eBay.
When it arrived I wired up straight into the main beam waited till dark then turned this bad boy on.
For a full 30 seconds I could see everything then boom !!!blew all the lights horn total darkness.
My question is there a correct way to fit this light bar as no directions and at a lost need a bit of help.
 
Any extra lights need their own fused circuit- piggybacking off the existing wiring will cause much more current to be drawn which blows the fuse to protect the wiring.
What you need to do is add a fused supply from the battery. This gets switched by a relay which is triggered by the main beam circuit. You can install a switch in this connection to turn the extra lights off completely.

Can I wire straight into main beam if I put in a relay or do I have to fit a separate switch in dash.
Damage done wasn't a blown fuse burned out light switch and main beam gutted.

Welcome to the forum, to do a proper job it should come on with the main beam of the head lights via a relay, I believe that you should only have it coming on via a switch if you intend it to be used off road only
 
Iirc it would be an mot fail if they came on with the main beam, so a switch is necessary in this sense as well as overloading wiring

Not so- you can have as many extra main beam lights as you like, but they are legal only if they go off when you switch to dipped beam. You can have an extra switch to turn them off entirely if you want. Without it they will be on whenever main beam is selected on the stalk. Must be switched by a relay in any case.

This is correct, there is no restriction on height or number of what is classed as auxiliary lights switched with main beam so long as they are in matched pairs (or presumably central if a light bar).
 
I can't find the regs except in pdf for atm but if you do a search on here it's been discussed (rightly and wrongly ) many times but some of the threads have the right .gov link.

I thought they had to have a manual switch to disable for a long time but was proved wrong

Going to go with the main beam hook up makes sense putting in a relay big hands up for all your help.
