Sorry to be an idiot. But what is the purpose of an immobiliser, and roughly how do they work...or should I be asking Google o_O:D
what they say on the tin. They immobilise the vehicle. Mine is a switch that i can take with me when i remove my keys. It's a plug that i put into the bulkhead to complete the electrical connection from the battery to the starter. Without it it's harder to start the landy. Granted you could probably crank start or just get around it some way. It's just a little extra deterrent. Does effect your insurance too.

Ahh that makes sense, thanks for letting me know :)

Just got an ins quote for a 3dr fl1 td4 £1300...which i dont thibk is too bad, thats for third party fire and theft
That's not bad for an 18 year old. It's £410 yearly for me including breakdown and legal cover. That's for a series though. With a disco you'll actually be able to go places ;)

Who's that with? I found admiral to be quite fair.

Yeah, I suppose a disco is always gonna be more expensive to insure than a freelander, due to the size and engine size etc...

I just put my details into compare the market, that quote was with GoSkippy, who I'm with for my current car, they are cheap, but I have heard some bad reviews since I have been with them. Hopefully I never have to claim from them

That's the prayer we all make! Was about to say, I hope to never claim but so far admiral have performed admirably ;)

Never heard of GoSkippy. I did what you did, stuck my details into confused.com

I foolishly set my yearly mileage to 6k thinking i'd drive her to work but like **** am i going on the motorway in a series2 every day. Next year i'll drop it down to like 1500 lol. Guess that will trim some costs off of the insurance.

Have you put your details in with a black box and immobiliser included? I imagine a black box wouldn't know what to do with itself if you went laning.

Exactly.

Haha that would make the journey to work fun;)

I haven't put a black box on the quote, as tbh I wouldn't have one again, but I have just added an immobilizer and it knocked £300+ off the price :D

Thanks again for the advice

Well that's great but make sure it actually has an immobiliser, ideally fitted professionally. Then you can keep receipts as proof that you had one fitted if it gets nicked.

Get a crook lock too. I'm going to order one and i'm considering a wheel clamp as well for when it's parked outside my house.

Just be careful with it, had a good laugh watching someone panic when on a pay and play when they lost the immobiliiser plug in the mud, Got to watch the game of "how do we override the immobiliser" in a mud filled hole!

Cheers

As a bystander interested in all things landy, I take it that laning doesn't get covered by insurance does it or do you take out a conditional policy ?

Good point....I'm not sure whether it would be covered on a b.o.a.t because technically I think they are classed as a public road....I am probably wrong tho

that's brilliant.

Mines a plug on the inside of the cab, has to be pushed in and twisted to be engaged or disengaged. Where was the immobiliser on the vehicle you mentioned?! Or had they taken it out and dropped it??

Yeah imo when you have put a lot of time, effort and money into your car it would make sense to get some decent security for it, there is some disgusting people out there unfortunately.

Just on the ctr console on a D1, owner is not sure where it went as it was not attached to the keys....Did show how that immobiliser was only going to delay the vehicle being stolen, not going to stop it.

Cheers

Yeah nothing will stop somebody that's very determined. They could just winch my landy onto a truck and **** off with it if they really wanted. It's just to stop the majority.

My immobiliser isn't attached to my keys either, due to it's placement i'd need a long chain on the key ring. Might be time i got one.

Definitely. Landys aren't that hard to steal though. Especially old series and defenders. Like i said, if they've scouted it and really want it, they'll take it. Same with anything though. All we can do is make it not worth the effort.

Exactly. Sadly there are people around who will stop at nothing, but we can at least make them more difficult to steal.

It's like someone I know had a new ifor Williams trailer on his drive, he always kept it with wheel clamps on, and the one time it was left without clamps for a couple of hours, some low life scum took it straight off his drive in daylight!

Lovely little island we live on!!:rolleyes:
