Heyup people!
I'm a newbie....Unfortunately don't own a landy yet, but I'm hoping to get one within the next year.

Don't want anything too fancy but I'm hoping long term to modify it so that I can enjoy some greenlaning (if there are any decent ones around Lincolnshire).

My first idea is either a discovery 1 or 2, but I would appreciate any advice I can get.

Hello Harvey, welcome to Looney Zone.
We all have our favourites, as you'll soon see from all the banter twixt Rangies, Tratters, Discos and (especially it seems) Hippos.
Wish I'd thought of joining up before I bought my Defender, not that she's horrible but I'd have been better prepared when buying I think.
Many great sources of info, wit, and bulljitz here. Enjoy :D

D1 300Tdi manual 5 door 7 seater.

If you don't know exactly what your looking at take someone to poke and prod in all the right places.

Don't be scared of a short MOT rot box (I make the assumption you can weld?) buy it cheap and rebuild the body, so long as the engine & running gear are in good order then it's fine. You can spend big on a pretty one an still only have a pile of scrap if the cam belt snaps.

Thanks for the welcome....I'd like a 90 hardtop, but we've all got to start somewhere lol

Yeah, some useful tips there, thanks!
I can't weld as of yet, but i know someone who can, and if I ask him nicely he might teach me lol.
Am I right in thinking the chassis doesn't rust too bad on the d1, but the bodywork does, and vice versa for the d2?

Hi mate, welcome.

You’ll find just about everything you need for info on here. It’s a great source of knowledge, barely needing to ask a question because the answers are already there. ;)

Cheers, it seems like the landy community (or what I have seen of it) are a pretty helpful bunch...I'm looking forward to getting involved :)

Oh....trust me I want to....I really want to, but my little friend called the bank balance has other ideas :D
You are only 18. Though i'm only 23 and managed to afford a nice old series.

Just keep your eyes open. Don't rush into one. You don't need to get a mint 90. You just need to get something safe (yeah lol...) and mobile.

I spent a fair few months looking for mine. Also, regardless of what you get (a 90) then take someone who is either knowledgable on landys or mechanics.

You won't need to spend loads. A friend of mine got herself a 90 for about £3500. It's gorgeous.

Whatever you get you'll love. You will spend the first few months like "why the **** did i buy this?!" but then you'll realise that pottering along is the best way to live.

Well...that's the first time I've seen 'safe' and '90' in the same sentence haha.

Tbh, as long as it drives, and doesn't collapse entirely on its first journey, I'm not too worried about condition, because it gives me an excuse to modify it to how I would like it to be

Totally agree. The more you do with and to it the more fun it is to drive.

Also i saw you wanted to know about green lanes in linconshire

Give this a go.

Yeah...I'm guessing that's half the fun, fitting new parts then going and testing them

Thanks for that link, just what I needed:D
Eh, sort of. Gets a little infuriating at times. So whatever you get, i'm assuming you're like me, not too mechanically advanced at just 18, just get something in good enough nick.

No prob. Let us know if you're viewing or have bought a landy. Pictures are mandatory.

Yeah true.

And from the other stuff I've seen on lz I had gathered that pics were required :p

Hopefully it won't be too long before I find something, but I've got some saving to do
