Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

I'm "Andi1" and this is my introduction:
I bought my second Disco II today in Switzerland. My first Disco was 2002 model,4.0 V8 dark green and rocking the three amigos. I left it back in Texas and missed so much that I had to get another one. Today, on a spontaneous drive to Luzern, I purchased from a private farmer a 2003 Disco II 4.6l V8 HSE. (He listed it as a 2004...but the build year is 12/2003) It only had 38,000 k/m and fresh inspected last week so I thought at 13,000CHF it was a steal deal. Only has 2 service records and comes in a dark grey with black interior. On my drive back to Bern tonight I came across some traffic and my check engine light came on. Kind of sucks cause I just got the Rover and the owner said no guarantees once I leave his driveway. I was idling for about 40 mins on the A1 and then I got kind of a missfire feeling and then beep...my first amigo appeared. Oh well it could be just normal...cause I never owned a Disco that was amigo light free for more than a week...but on the first day...it's a new record.

I would like to get checked out by a Rover shop next week. As far as modifications go, I wanna get rid of the Alpine Head Unit and revert back to stock. I wanna also get rid of the self leveling system and switch to coils(if my insurance lets me that is) and add some beefier tires, find a factory Land Rover bear or rhino wheel cover and possibly add that heavy non aerodynamic roof rack.

I'm a Paleoecology Student at the University of Bern but born and raised in Texas, and plan to finish my masters here and then travel the world looking for Dino Bones and exotic plants. Off Road in a Rover will soon be part of my full time job:)
Can't wait to start wrenching, taking adventures and chatting about this and that with ya'll in the Landy Zone.

Oh I forgot to mention I also have a 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 V8...except it's still rocking Texan plates and I'm having a tough time registering it here in Switzerland so I'm towing to my girlfriends ranch in Germany this summer and making it an offroad only weekend fun truck until my dad helps me get it back home to Texas.

Welcome Tejas...Do you have to register your Landy there if you have US plates? I know in some areas in the EU, that if you are a American and will not be living there permanently you can drive on your US plates...maybe a year or so, If you are not planning on staying there after school..you might want to look into it.

I drove it with Texan plates for the first year then brought it to a Land Rover Garage in Spiez to see what all has to be done for making it EU ready. I was quoted over 7,000CHF in parts and service including the price of registering, tax and so on. I might send it back home and then instead pick up a Defender 110 Td5. It's my dream Rover...I just can't seem to find a non rusty green one in Switzerland for under 15,000CHF.

Americans need to know that rover is a car brand too, not assciated with landrover since the 70s or summit

Last night was my first night with the Disco and I took her up high to the top of a small mountain near Bern to take some pictures, play little in the mud and learn some newer features that I did not have on my Salty Disco II back home. Not before long it started to snow like crazy...a surprise blizzard came...so I decided to hurry up and drive down so I don't get stuck and in trouble messing around in Switzerland on a mountain with a Rover. I went down in Normal mode,High,2nd gear but then my ABS started to slip and i was losing control. I hate abs and don't really understand why I can't turn it off. So I tried out the Hill Descent Control for the first time, put it low and 2nd gear and was amazed that it used breaks and accel by itself going down a powdery hill! All I did was steer...but at some points where it was really steep,it lost grip, and the brake pedal made noise as if abs was messing with it. I would jut tap the break and it was reset and start to gain control again. When I made it safely down the twisty mountain...I realized something...I want an older Defender...with no computer assistance...cause the Disco takes a lot of fun away from offroading....but when doing normal stupid stuff like last night it is still amazing fun! I had music, coffee,a non scared girlfriend riding passenger, heated seats and car that took us home safely:)

Heres a crappy photo: i didnt have time to take a action shot while holding the camera still.

Sorry....It's my dream Land Rover. I know about the Rovers...but us Americans love to short cut on our words and use lots of abbreviations in our writing. We always say Rover or Disco instead of Land Rover and Discovery or Yoda instead of Toyota and MBZ or Merc instead of Mercedes Benz or Mercedes...Thanks for the sticky though...i'll start saying Land Rover on here.

The Question about Rovers though...I know they don't wake cars really anymore or BMW bought them at one point but they still make engines right?

Hi and :welcome:

Have a Canadian cousin who teaches in Rolle.

Bloody expensive place Switzerland, went over for her wedding, stayed the weekend, spent the next 6 months paying for it!

Well next time you could just stay at our place. We have an extra room along with an extra car :)

I'll just trade you for some tedious wrenching in the garage:D
