Hey Sean ..... "utter crap"....you say? Well, thanks for the constructive advice.

it wasn't aimed at you, you appear to know you've not bought the best LR product, and you seem to be accepting it

unlike the numpty who is arguing in favour of ..... well whatever

Okay Sean, I see where your comment was aimed now. I am new here, so it is hard to follow the answers and am looking for HELP remember! Advice (constructive if possible, but don't mind humour! )

I'm going to the Freelander Forum (don't follow me! lol!...otherwise, I'll think you're a stalker!).

:D

Yeah Sean, but I've just bloody purchased it!! That means I am probably going to lose a lot of money on it? It seems a shame as it is lovely to drive (okay.....don't start again you lot!!!).

I paid £5k for it too :(

Numpty

I've had dealings with all types and speak with experience without fear or favour.

And i don't give three syllable answers, I back up my statements with cold hard facts.

Naturally we all have our own opinions, the difference is I don't call people names.

I'm takin' great offense at the Jeep comment 'cause I've been associated with many of 'em, and they ain't one of 'em a Freelander.

@freakylander... stand as tall as you can, mate.

Petrol is better than doozle IMHO I have one, it pulls like a train and does about 30 mpg.
Doozle is underpowered smelly and slow, it also costs a fortune when it goes wrong.

Drive one, a good one, before offering advice :)

.
i have the wife owned one so yes i can offer my advice
:p and i stand by the diesal is way better than the petrol and doesnt cost any more to repair than the petrol

I'm not failing to realise that the ones who are commenting on burning or selling it are not actually answering the op question and should be part of the community.

On the contrary - if it's an expensive problem to come - and we don't know if it is or isn't, cutting your losses whilst unpalatable could be an option.

Certainly no harm in at least being aware what those firms that advertise might offer.

If the guys are right about the head gaskets, might be a decision the OP keeps in mind if she encounters problems

All that said, I feel genuinely sad if she has made a mistake - none of us can lose that sort of money

to answer the OP's original Q - as has already been done - 18-20MPG is the norm in the UK for a 2.5 Gaylander. It is, however a notoriously unreliable vehicle and due to its many inbuilt design faults, can be very expensive. Some peeps have, however, managed to get a good one. Lots on here have had their fingers (and other anatomical parts) severely burnt.
You (the OP) have several choices....
1) keep it and pray
2) keep it and be prepared to spend a lot of money on it
3) sell it before any problems occur.
4) keep it, spend lots on it and then sell it, incurring a loss.
