Hello, and HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My name is David and I just bought a 99 Range Rover 4.0(base model I think), and I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I picked up the truck two days ago, and was told it needed a battery. Today I put in a brand new one, and the truck was running great!!! About an hour ago, I was sitting in it letting it run for a little, and taking it up and down my block, seeing how it won't be officially on the road for a week or two. I then pulled in my driveway, sat for about 5 minutes and the truck stalled out. I started it again, and sure enough, stalled right away. Now, I don't know what exactly to start to do(hopefully fix it myself). It turns over fine, but if I try to give it gas, It won't let me rev higher than about 1600rpm, and shuts off within a coulple seconds. Please help! Any advice will be greatly appreciated, i am trying to fix up the truck myself, and hope i didn't already run into an expensive ECU problem. Thanks again.
