Though it was about time I joined. I've been lurking for a while gathering info on and off for the last year or so.
My LR story so far..
I bought a 1978 S3 off ebay last year in a fit of Saturday morning excitement from my wife!! "Look, here's a good one... quick buy it now" so I did and clicked that button. I had to hire a transporter and we both took a day off work to go and get it.
The very long description on the item was very different to the vehicle we brought home. Described as been ex-military, re-built then stood in a barn for 10 years.. plus able to go "straight though the MOT". It has been sitting in my driveway ever since we got it home early last August.
Then... during a car boot sale with the kids later that month I met a guy who had lost his leg. He said he could do with a car like mine (GC Jeep) as he could no longer drive a manual. That he had rebuilt a '59 S2 with a V8 but not had much luck selling it on eBay (he had been asking too much). I had a spare 98 GC so eventually we swapped and I ended up with this..(I would put a picture here if I knew how so that can come later). It looked like junk but sounded great and had just been MOT'd.
I have done much work done on it since; I don't know how it went through the mot but my mechanic guys said it was lethal, so first of all the brakes had to be sorted out and upgraded. New doors top and bottom, cab top changed, upgraded braking, FW hubs, seats, steering damper which is now too stiff so looking at power steering off a Carlton, getting heater connected to the rover engine, adjustable tow hook, change of colour to metallic dark grey, upgraded lights, anti-burst locks, wing tops, swing away rear wheel and change of reg. back to 1959.
Future work will include RR diffs and perhaps a weber/holly/edenbrook carb.
Sorry if I've gone on a bit for a first post..can't wait to drive it properly. Just need to advertise the blue S3 on eBay now.
