Heater plugs/glowplugs?!

Was reading a post the other day someone had bought glow plugs for there 2.25 diesel?! i hav a knakerd 2.25 diesel it starts after a while! I try to spend as little money on the engine as possible because i know its nearing the end of its life. Is it worth me changeing from the old heater plugs to the new glowplugs?! will it start any better?! are the glow plugs any beter thatn the heaterplugs? Or shall i just leave well alone as it works sort of!
Any opinions would be good!

ya shuld be able ter git a set fer bout 30 squids off flea bay and they will make a diffrunce.
Heater plugs / glow plugs = same thing.

Ive seen em on e blag for 2.75 each. cant vouch for their quality though as iv never bought anything that was anygood off e bay.
put it this way , if you have a box of crap sitting in the corner , e blag is the last stop off at desperation central before that big rubbish bin at the end of the line.

The glowplugs will work a lot better than the old style heater plugs. It's definitely a worthwhile upgrade. You should buy a set with the wiring kit as the wiring is different to the old style. i.e. as the other thread, the new glowplugs are not wired in line. If a heater plug fails, they all fail. If a glowplug fails, the other three will keep working. The glowplugs are 12v so you need to bypass the ballast resistor, this is in the other thread already though.

so there is a difference between glow plugs and heater plugs? some guy up top of this thread say they are the same things! is the ballast resitor the coil loooking thing?

They work to do the same thing but they are different. Yep, the ballast resistor is the coil looking thing. If I remember correctly, you can move all the wires (bar one) to one side of the ballast resistor and use it as a terminal. The 'bar one' wire will be from the glow plug light, this needs to be earthed, this should be the smallest wire. Then hey presto, all should work inc. the glow plug lamp.

In the future I would recommend getting a starter solenoid/relay and wiring a direct lead from the battery to the glow plugs via that. That way you will have a good source of power. All will be fine without that, just something I would do in the future when you can get round to it.
