Hi all
I have just noticed my heated mirrors are hot all the time.
I always thought they were switched on by the rear screen switch, it seems mine are on soon as the ignition is on. is this the same on anyone else's or have i got a fault somewhere, its a 2006 td4 sport

Mine are permanently on, too (2006 Td4). They never get very hot, though. Some folks have told me they get too hot to touch but I think these must be aftermarket glasses.

yes .. ( 2006 td4 )
and they don't get very hot .. more like ' warm '

fuse no.3 in the cab fuse-box connects to them ..
but .. also to the rear window screen wash ..

each mirror has a separate fuse within the door wiring

Im convinced on my 2001 td4 they worked with the heated rear window, maybe just me having a moment,
At least if its wrong, i know im not alone now. cheers.

your heated mirrors are nothing to do with the rear screen heater they are independent and work on a temperature sensor.

Nope...
Wing mirrors never use any temp sensor, never work with HRW. They just on when ignition is switched. Since late 1997 when first freelander were showed
This is simple, self restricted system (never overheat). Just 12V feed and fuse.

As Winu said. The mirror heaters use PTC elements. This means that the resistance increases as the temperature rises, maintaining a constant 40°C give or take . They are fed by an ignition live so are permanently on.
When the same system was used by early Rover vehicles, there was a thermostat in each mirror shell, preventing the elements from heating unless the air temperature dropped below about 5°C. This thermostat led to unreliability of the heaters, so was dropped from all 95 onwards models. From then on the heaters were fed with ignition live, so were permanently on.

so is the fuse in the door or the wing by the door (as my os one has never worked but ns is brilliant)

what is the use of coming on here year after year to be told what you say is rubbish I shall stop giving advise and just to say why are my mirrors not hot in the summer. I have checked with a meter and when it is warm there is no flow of voltage enough said good by.
