Heated front windscreen

Thanks Don... (Wammers seems to have issues today so i'll just leave him alone to howl at the moon) :eek:

Basically, mine's got a crack in it so i was just wondering what the costs involved would be... buying a used screen Vs insurance excess

Ok then sorry for being terse. Remove wipers and arms complete. Remove screen side trims. Remove lower screen trim. Remove screen upper trim. Remove trim panels from above scuttle. Remove earth wires from stud in centre of scuttle. Disconnect two plugs one left one right. Remove interior mirror. Remove screen. Fit new. Connect two plugs one left one right. Reconnect earth wires to stud in centre of scuttle. Refit cover over scuttle. Refit top screen trim. Refit bottom screen trim. Refit screen side trims. Refit wipers and arms. Polish new screen. Refit interior mirror. Hows that. :p:D
 
I was considering the same last year sometime.

I wanted a brand new one, and the cheapest I could find was £300, but a second hand on will be at least £75.

You need a wire saw to get the old one out, and suction handles etc to get the new one in Plus applying the bead of sealand at the right angle with the correct profile probably isn't easy. Add to that £10 for the plastic trim clips you'll break and need to replace, and a morning swearing, I'd get it on your insurance if you can.

Mine was £75 to have a brand new heated screen fitted for me. The guy even came with a bag of the trim clips so he obviously knew what to expect.

It doesn't effect your NCB either, well it didn't mine.

Plus you don't have to dispose of the old one etc etc etc!

Yes that is the way to go. Even considering attempting to fit one yourself is a ridiculous proposition. Hence the answers given. :);)

Autoglass wanted 550 for rear quarter glass the side with radio aerial and tailgate glass was 700 quid (not fitted price) Insurance would not pay TPFT a visit to the breaker 120 for the upper tailgate and quarter glass. It was interesting watching the breaker guy sawing the glass out he used a manual window wire from another car but did have a few war wounds by the time he was done and cussing the air was blue :eek:

Think you may find the thing is actually a special tool for removing bonded screens. Tailgate glass is £470.00 from Land rover. :););)
