Before I post my current conundrum I would like to say a big general thank you to all the contributors to this forum especially those VCU 'How to' authors. My TD4 3 door is in a much better place than 3 months ago.
Now for the HFW. When I bought the vehicle the HFW switch wouldn't illuminate. A relay swap sorted this and both halves of the screen were working fine. I have used the HFW twice since the repair and now notice that the drivers half no longer works.
I have read and learned plenty on here and have established that
I have 12volts coming from the relay and 30amp fuses
I have 12volts when measured at the righ hand side + windscreen connector (known good earth)
Intermittent 12volts when measured using the - windscreen connector
So I have removed the - lead from the inner wing and fully cleaned it.
I now have continuity between the - windscreen inner wing earth point and other known earth points
I have also checked the continuity through the offside screen circuit and it's good too.
Reconnected everything and checked the 12v supply measured from the + wire and the - earth point for the screen and it's good reading 14.2v when engine running and FHW switched on
Tested by misting the screen and IT'S NOT WORKING ......???
I read someone's helpful post where he had identified that the bonded connection just under the windscreen edge was poor and he had to wedge it with cardboard in order for it to work. I have carefully manipulated the two wires at the bonded point whilst the continuity leads were connected and the continuity remained good and unbroken.
Help Please, sorry for such a long post.
