hi guys im new here and i bought a 96 discovery with lpg but i think i have bought myself a lemon .

the exhaust was blowing from the manifold a quick fix i thought tighten the nuts and on the way home the car over heated and pressurised the water which i thought might have just been a dodge thermastat . i have taken off the manifold and put in new gaskets and tightened up but it has now gotten worse and i can see flames shooting from around the manifold are .

so my question is what else could be wrong and if i have to take the heads off how difficult is it to do ? i have stripped and rebuilt a normal inline 4 engine but never a V8

cheers
jay

you might find blocks cracked behind liner giving head gasket fault symptoms and thats why it was sold ,new block £1000 ,but another hopefully good used about £500 it m ay be head gasket but

Are the flames shooting out from between the head and fanimold or from the head itself.
As for flames I can honestly say that is odd. Does it produce flames on both fuels or just LPG? It may be that the timing is not been set to LPG properly causing the gas to continue to burn or exhaust stroke.
LPG needs the timing adjusting to run properly, this does effect petrol running slightly though. Check the timing before you go to the expense of removing heads. Not saying that is the fault, it's just iliminates a cheap job if it is.
