lol , nah I spent my free time yesterday taking a door off, they are heavy those big two doors!

drivers is shot and the passenger is mint, gonna take it in to work and weld the hell outta it.

shame about yer tappets mate

well used our last good day today to try and sort the headlights. took the old 7 inchers from my other classic round and took out one on the 72 plugged in the spare and nothing.

so much for your theory hammy :p

ok so must be the switch I thought, spent quite while taking things to bits in the rapidly creeping dark, swapped over the stalk and now I have headlamps but no sides.

also no back lights, although I am not sure they were on before.

any ideas?

Must be the switch. Rear lights should come on with the sides. Sort those and should be good as new.
I used possibly the last decent weekend of the year to do the drivers side head gasket. Found a couple of badly worn tappets amd replaced them. Result.......head gasket blow, cured.
Tappets..........1 guess!
At least if I end up running over some fooka in the pedestrianised part of town, they can't say they didn't hear me coming.

Burn it????????

Honestly don't know, I'm chasing fooked tappets every other week now and its starting to **** me off.
Can I just take em all out and get a refund on em? The cam seems fine but the tappets never seemed to have jacked out properly. Another went properly today, proper valvetrain slap so its inlet manifold off again although next time I do it, I want to be putting 16 decent quality tappets in there, fook ****part.

Surely mine must be a bad batch otherwise how would they get away with selling new components that are either faulty at the time of fitting or go faulty within a month?

New post coming up. I need a refund and compensation for gaskets and labour.

****part are!

new parts that dont work are a common thing mate from them mate, made by kids in india.

I was reading a back issue of lro today from about 93 and it somone had the same probs as you. turned out it could 1 of 3 things

1. airiated oil from splits in pick up pipe etc.

2. blocked oil galleries to the tappets, they are very small and only takes a little gaket compound or gakket floating in the oil to block them.

3.faulty tappets.

btw this was on a recon engine and the tappets were replaced again after that and it still didnt sort it for more than a short time.

I would clean the galleries and buy genuine parts mate or you will keep ****in inot the wind

I took the origninal switch into work and got it tested, it was working but very corroded inside, gave it a good cleaning and put a new connector on one end but havent fitted it yet as spent today fitting the door back into the hole, see other post.

Just picked up your post. This is going to sound silly but I assume some previous owner hasn't converted the light's power scource to the later set-up, ie the ignition has to be on as well? Just a thought.

thanks , It was on with the engine running so I guess not??? either way I just want em to work lol.

I am thinking it must be the switch in some way as swapping it changed the problem???

ok then..here goes...

i keep it simple.please ask if more details required.

light switch has 3 wires coming from it..

one brown..that has perminent 12v on it..it is not fused..it is feed from connector (4 way bullet.proberly)that also goes to ignition switch and 12v terminal post on alternator.
this brown wire on light switch has to have 12v on it for lights to work..if no feed find out why.

two blue...this feeds 12v upto dipped/main switch on colum stalk.(also if fitted auxillary driving lamps switch).no 12v here no headlights..this wire only feeds 12v when you switch light to headlights..no feed on sidelights.

3 red..this feeds the side lights 12v..it should have 12v on this wire in both side and headlight when switched on..it is internally connected..now if no 12v from here your switch is buggered...if you have 12v here (lights on obviously) then you need to look further..

further...this red wire feeds the interior light switch and obviously all the side lights.it goes into (from light switch) a bullet connector, one side feeding driving/interior lamps the other side goes to a hard wired connection (3 wires joined together, proberly covered in tape)from this connection 2 more red wires feed the front and rear side lights (via more bullets etc..)

hope this helps.

thats good thanks zen, I am hoping buy fitting the now cleaned and tested original switch back in all will be well, the dodgy connection seemed be the brown live but I have fitted a new bullet to the end of that wire now as it was buggered so I hope will sort it, I only have 1 red wire coming from the switch.

1 red
1 blue
1 brown
