well tigger kind of, had the steering column casing apart and indeed the little black wire had broke away. got me soldering iron out and sorted. now have dipped beams yey :p. only problem when i go from dipped and then push stork forward for main beams, i still only get left had main beam and then the right hand one goes to side light??

Just an update on the red rusty one, Well as has been said it was the little black wire snapped! No soldering gear but if you undo the screw that holds the soldered tab and trap a new bare bit of the wire in between the soldered tab and the plastic hey presto all lights working and through the mot we go along with new boot floor and various patches here and there!

Yes it's called cutting the plug off and fitting 3 new individual connectors :D

Done all that before i checked the black wire on the stalk  The black wire had completely melted its side of the plug on both headlights! but for 3 quid i had two new plugs and a fiver for two new bulbs all is now back in order! :clap2:

possibly - but, stating the obvious, its got to get hot to melt. Yu said yo Mondeo dint melt - i reckon all those plastics are made by only one or two suppliers - not by LR, So i int convinced its just the material.

I suppose the answer is an additional earth direct to the headlamp unit. My mates have just melted, and wanted to know what caused it. I pointed out that the 100W headlamp bulb might have had something to do with it. and told him to wire direct to battery, using heavier wires thru a relay and use the high beam supply wire to activate the relay.
