HI, I have a 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 and I want to upgrade to a touchscreen sat nav.

What is compatible with this model?

This isn't available for my model apparently.

Well no. You're FL2 is a post 2013 model, which means the HU is integrated into the centre console. Unless you want to hack that about, in the hope you can retrofit something universal, then you're stuck with what you have.

I don't mind chopping bits away if it meant I could change it. The bluetooth is tempermental in it now so all I have is a radio. If I could saw that inset section out and fit something I would.

I don't feel confident in doing anything that someone may have tried and failed with. I was hoping for some previous experience with this model and potentially a success story.

It's not just a case of chopping out the plastic. There's the issue that the HU is integrated into the vehicle electronic systems. It'll hook up to the Parking Distance Control (PDC), the Sat Nav and the Body Control Module (BCM) probably other systems. Also if it has a power amplifier, it'll also use a fibre optic link system, which is an added complication.

Anything is possible, but for an improvement in Bluetooth connectivity, it's simply not worth it imho. You need to determine what the problem is with the BT, and see if there's a simpler way around it, like change the phone to something less fussy?
