Head gasket change

Have you tried to take the head off a TD5 with the cam in place? Once you take the top cover off you'll see why the cam and drive sprocket needs to come out first. Locking pins are merely for realignment and timing when putting it all back together. If you can use a lathe you could turn your own pins or use suitable drill bits as already mentioned. Having said that the proper locking pins are not overly expensive.

....and remember to put the cam sprocket back in before you put the new head back on - it will go back in afterwards with about 1 thou clearance, but not good for the nerves thinking you are going to have to take the head off again and use a new set of bolts .......... apparently.....
