No, it's the SE without the 4x4 screen unfortunately. Been thinking about the SAS, one of the reasons I've got this car stems from when my sister called about a warning light (final straw as far as she was concerned). She was towing on wet grass and I think it was the TC coming on. But....it did it to me on both left and right turns on dry flat roads with the slightest of bends, no gravel or rough stuff. Only did it a few times and then was clear until this week. From what I've read that can be caused by a SAS problem. Please say if I'm not correct.
Okay, now a stupid question. How does the panel under the steering wheel come off, just clips or the screws I felt running along the bottom ?

can u do me a favour please as I want to try something , on the dashboard in the middle ur have a DSC button, can u press that please and then drive it round the block and see if u if u can feel anything whilst turning left or right

The SAS can become detached from the steering column, can verify that by looking at the live data % , so u should see the degrees change when u move the steering wheel , then when the wheels are dead straight the live data should read %%

Plse let us know how u get on via the live data, also see if the sensor has become detached , I’ll find some pics I’ve got to show u ref the sleeve

Ref the panel, under ur steering wheel , pull the top towards u as it hooks in at the bottom

the cover that sits up under by your feet ur see 2 x posi screws, at the front , is easier if u remove the drivers side foot well small side panel , as that panel that sits under can break easily

Here’s a video, the yellow collar should be stuck to the steering column , the large black plastic item surrounding it is the steering wheel angle sensor module , the plastic should turn as u turn the column , if it doesn’t turn properly when u turn the steering wheel the sensor can’t pick up what angle ur wheels are

can see in the video where the sleeve has come loose from the column

The SE has the driver information centre, same as the HSE, so presumably it's a S not and SE.

Again, how old is the battery? If it's more than 4 years old, or of a type which doesn't supply enough juice when cranking, you'll normally get an error message on starting.

Se has the info screen but not the 4x4 information data unless it’s been activated with iid or similar

Interesting.

I know of 2 SE's both of which have 4x4 information on the screen, and as far as I know, neither has had it added later. Both owners have the IID, but would ask me to add such an update, when working on said vehicles.

You turn the screen on with the iid tool.
 
Doing fine thanks Gary. Bit crazy at the moment init. Still I've got plenty to keep me busy, just as you do I bet. ;)

Good to hear ur ok my friend , indeed, am currently messing around with the laptop software and also a oil pressure gauge setup , just been trying to fit the monitor neatly as possible into a panel, got to tidy it up, making up a longer loom for it as the sensor is near the front of the engine, got the Y piece so the OEM oil pressure gauge can be reinstalled

If it's easy, then maybe both owners have done it. I'd be surprised if one of them did it though, as he asked me to use his IID to activate 3 flash indicators, which weren't on his year D3.

Indeed, think the 3 flash indicators was part of the post 2007 re flash on the iid :)

Thank you for the input, tried the DSC though heard and felt nothing. Got the panels off but seems like I've got to take some more off to see the sensor, its higher up the column than I thought and rain has just stopped play again.
The Foxwell shows live data but not the degrees changing when I move the wheel. At the moment it's showing steering wheel angle of 5773.5 degrees if that means anything. But also have Angle Comparison Error plus Angle Skip Error and so it goes on.
I'll have to wait now till it stops raining.

I unfortunately have no idea. Yes I appreciate what a bad battery can do, so I'll get it checked out or pull it out and put it on a bigger charger than the smart one I use on the car. But yes, thank you something to think about and get ordered if I think it's bad.

In my experience with the D3. If the battery is more than 4 years old, and you get warnings like "special programs off" on starting, the the battery is scrap valve only. Don't even waste your time charging it. Just buy a replacement, with over 900CCA capacity, and budget to replace the thing every few years. The D3 is extremely power hungry, especially when starting, and very quickly shows you a weakness in the battery. ;)

indeed have a look at the sensor on the column and plse let us know, might be easier with the engine running so can gently move the steering wheel and watch that collar

Thanks Gary, from a D3 forum thread the 5773 degree readings ended up as a loose sensor so I'll try there soon.

ur so welcome and indeed that’s what I thought because of the readings , with that collar loose it plays havoc because it communicates with other systems

indeed , Plse let us know how u get on and always a team effort , along with saving a fortune :)
 
Well, unfortunately (?) the SAS is fixed fast to the column and not loose. Easy fix out of the door. This was checked by video and feeling it. So going to have to delve deeper now. Battery was at 12.5 Volts when I checked it, this was after seats had been moved back and forth, interior lights on etc most of yesterday afternoon and a lot today and battery had not been on charge. Not sure how much I took out of it doing that but.... Alternator voltage at tickover 14.1 Volts and at 2k 14.45 Volts. Buggered if I know what to do now. But onwards etc.

Resting battery voltage isn't a true reflection of its capacity.

What about the battery voltage when it's supplying 500 Amps to crank the engine. The voltage needs to remain above 11V , ideally 11.5V when cranking the engine over.

can u also try something plse,

battery disconnected on both terminals , multimeter set to ohms and on ur OBD2 socket to between pins

6 and 14
Then pins 3 and 11

please can u tell us what the ohms are please , think ur also going to need a better diagnostic reader I’m afraid if the current one won’t allow u to reset the steering wheel angle sensor

also need the live data so u can watch the degrees change as u move the wheel , then resetting it to zero

Will be interesting to see what u get ref ohms
