When off road and when I occasionally encounter a bump, it will often cause the hazard lights to come on by itself. Only way to turn it off is to turn off the engine and turn it back on again. Any idea what causes this?

mine's done that once... took quite a hard knock to do it and its only done it the once..

i try to avoid hard knocks now..

dunno why it does it though....

Err yes the info is in your owner hand book.

There is a crash inertia sensor within the the alarm/central locking ecu that will activate in a crash to unlock the doors via the central locking (if locked) and also activate the hazards.
If yours is activating with just on a simple bump the there is a fault, live with it or replace the ECU. :)

Last time it happened, it was a pretty hard bump, probably one of the hardest I've endured. (was dark) It was bad enough to warrant me inspecting the car afterwards.

I had this happen once at an offroad course. I basically dropped off a ledge at a million miles an hour that was bigger than I thought and BANG!! straight down on its arse on the towbar :( Doors unlocked, hazards came on..... I was braced for the airbag to go off  but it didn't thank god!

I had this a few weeks back after I bumped up and drove over a kerb. I couldn't get it to stop so removed the brown AMR1088 relay found in the nearside footwell. I've not refitted it since.

Happened to me a few times, usually clears when you take key out then lock and unlock the car with the fob.

If it doesn't clear then I'd guess a stuck sensor or relay.

cheers!

Mine is doing this nearly every day as I normally have to drive a very rough african road to get out to tarmac and is p%%%ing me off. Is there a way of permanently disabling the crash inertia sensor, I am a dab hand with a solder iron but do not know which pins to short out on the circuit board.
T.

As there's no circuit diagram available, that I know of, for the alarm ecu a visual identfication of the componant on the pcb will have to be made, then bridging or removing the componant to isolate depending how it or it's circuit functions. Alouth there are specs on inertia sensors i've never seen a spec on the LR item so who knows other than the manufacture of the ecu or sensor.

By defenition the sensor activates on the inertia in a bump/knock and has a circuit ajusted/designed to meet the needs in a grash situation, but inertia sensors to go faulty and become under or over sensitve and remember the circuit is powered 24/7 so if there's a problem in a normal albeit heavy bump/knock then replacment of the alarm ecu may be best.
