I’ve had a quick search through previous posts, but have not found a definitive answer to a small problem I have regarding the illumination of the hazard warning switch on the facelift FL1.

Should it be lit?

Seems strange to have a row of lights with a gap in the middle!
The hazards work ok but there is no light in the switch itself.

If it is a replacement job, does anyone know if the switch just “prises” out from the sides or do you have to up get behind it?
Cheers

From what I know it should be lit, normally there is a small bulb behind it which is simple to change ( only a guess have done it on other cars)

stop stop stop:

have been down this road a couple of weeks ago. there is a bulb in the hazard light switch, which is easily replaced, just unscrews/unclips from the bottom of the switch

BUT BUT BUT

not available as a part from LR, (or anywhere else for that matter).

"It's not a service part Sir"

"Then why is it removable like every other servicable bulb on the vehicle ?"

"It's not a service part Sir, here is the drawing on Autocat, it's not a service part Sir"

"So what do I do now then ?"

"Buy a new switch Sir, I will order it now, it will be here in 3 days"

"How much is that then ?"

"£25 plus VAT"

"I'll leave it thanks"

I even tried a couple of motorbike dealers because it is so small to no avail. Going to try and dismantle the bulbholder / bulb and see if I can get the bulb from RS or similar.

Good luck if you find one, let me know.

(Oh, by the way, Hi from North Kent, quite close to you in Meopham)

Many thanks to all, especially my new neighbour OP. ebay is usually a good option but not too may facelift switches on there at the mo. I may take it out and try Maplins as suggested. That is once I have repaired the rear door spring (Thanks to WLJayne for ebay item), painted the rusty rear hubs, replaced the rear box (baffles gone) and, and, and..........All this, and RCV in Paddock Wood said I had a good one when it was in recently for a new fuel pump... The joys of owning FL1

The light has gone in my hazard switch too (along with the seat belt warning light on the dash!). Must be a rover design thing, as it was the same with all the switches on the Rover 200/25 "not serviceable. You'll have to buy a new switch!". I just ignore the fact that they don't work! lol

Not sure if the posts above were for the facelift model, but that's what I have so maybe there was some confusion regarding how simple a job this should be.

Ok so I finally got around to looking at this today!!!!
In through the cup holder and (eventually) pushed the switch out from the back by inserting a very small screwdriver down the right hand side of the switch from the front, to depress the plastic locking slide which was holding it in place.
Then you need three hands to remove the electric feed. Depress the two side clips and at the same time press down the holding clip on the top. With your third hand, slide the cable socket off.

Once the switch is out you find that there is not a serviceable bulb to replace at the bottom and a new switch is the only option, as it looks as though the illumination is behind the front face of the switch. Removal of the front face is probably possible but it looks very fragile and I am not confident that it wouldn't break.

So I pushed it back in and will have to wait until a cheap one comes up on ebay.

30mins of my life I will never get back:rolleyes:

Bad luck there Dougden.

Just keep on checking eBay.

As for the seat-belt warning light mentioned by ianf99 - I need to point out that European spec vehicles don't have that lamp connected.

It's a N American requirement.

Definitely supposed to light up. I took mine apart and decided it was far too fiddly to bother changing the bulb so put a new switch in. Just take out the cup holders on top of the dash and then you can push the switch from behind really easy. The cup holders just unscrew, screws in the bottom.

Its all there in the link you posted

Hello all,

I have exactly this problem on my 2006 Freestyle. The hazard swith in the middle of the fog light and rear wiper switches isn't lighting up. I got hold of a 2nd hand switch pretty cheap, but it doesn't light up either.

Have taken the old swtich apart and have found that its illuminated by a very small blue LED in a white rubber holder.

Anyone got any ideas of where to get another one of these? Maplin maybe?

Got a switch from my local scrap yard ....... Was only a fiver so was
Worth taking the risk that it wouldn't light up either........ Luckily it does ...... Result !!
