Having trouble removing gearbox oil cooler pipes

I've finally found the cause of my gearbox oil leak (02 TD5 auto disco) ; the joint between the oil cooler and the pipe that carries the oil out. I've removed the intercooler etc etc - now all that remains is to remove the dam thing is to disconnect the so called "quick release" connections on the pipes. I've been battling with these for about half an hour now and can't get them off.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to do this? I'm imagine they're similar to pushfit plumbing connections, which can normally be taken apart from pulling and turning. The trouble here is I can't turn the pipe more than about quarter of a turn.

I didn't get an answer, so in the end used a hacksaw to cut the connection off the oil cooler. Once I had removed it I could see how it came apart. You basically just need to pull the plastic ring down away from the connection (so if disconnecting the oil cooler, you need to pull the two plastic rings towards the rear of the vehicle) - this opens up a metal ring inside the pipe which allows the pipe to come away. It's still a bit tricky. Don't be tempted to attack it too violently - my oil cooler already had a leak but this came considerably worse after I tried to get the pipes off with a pair of mole grips!! I had a similar issue with my Disco 2, but please check the so called quick release connector is pushed fully home as it should click when its done. its a sod of a job to get it there though.
