Having a 'mare with locking wheel nuts

Hi all,

Looking for some help, I've rung around garages and scoured the world wide web to no avail.

The locking wheel nut key from our 98 300tdi Defender has gone walkabouts.

We're trying to identify a code that corresponds to the nut below. There are no markings on it, nor the other one. It is a pretty straightforward version as you can see, you'll have to ignore the dented metal, it needed to be removed.

It features three indents equally spread out at 90 degree angles.

Cheers, we've tried two suppliers and they've come back with similar replies along the lines of 'sorry, there's 20+ different versions, you'll need to find out the key number'

Hoping someone may have the same one and be able to help
 
Buy a locking wheel nut removal tool and use that to get them off.
They are readily available online.
Then fit a new set, if you still want locking nuts on your wheels.
 
Call in at your local Landrover dealer parts department, they should be able to help you, I bought one from my local dealer for around £10.
They will let you try some to see if one fits, show them your photo to make a match, the codes are single letters, G, H, etc.
They are more bother than they are worth, once off replace them with normal wheel nuts.
 
My Freelander had locking nuts and no removal socket to fit. The wheel nuts had two grooves that didn't line up with the two bars on a locking nut socket that I found at the scrappies. I chiselled one of the bars out of the locking nut socket and removed the wheel nuts with the one remaining bar left in the socket, it was very easy to do. It made a mockery of the locking nuts as the socket with one bar could remove any of the locking nuts.
 
They are not very good and usually the socket chews up the locking wheel nut, and if you need to get the wheel off for a puncture or some reason away from home you are stuck.
 
Frankly, there are way worse things to worry about, get 'em off, get a new set on and keep the key, or better still don't bother with locking wheel nuts, they cause more grief than they solve as they simply do NOT lock wheels on ... ;)
 
To remove them just hammer a socket on to them get one that's just a tad smaller than the locking nut
ive done loads over the years, if you can use an impact socket & not cheap chrome socket as they can & will split ;)

As said previously ditch the lockers all together !!
 
The new locking nuts from Land Rover are a better design and the removal tool no longer splits when you try to get them off!
 
Sometimes its physically impossible to hammer a socket on over them, I've tried after my 3 year old raided my tool box!

In the end knocked a tool up to get them off, and then threw them all away, the cost of getting a specialist to get them off was ridiculous, hence the homemade tool!
