I'm having a bad weekend. Rained all day yesterday and while I got the fuel tank and air box painted inside I was very frustrated at how little I could get done.

Tried the second set of blind rivets to put the rear windows in this morning and they are just not pulling the frame and body panel together  That's two weeks I've been trying to get the windows in and it's now going to be a third!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Got the windscreen seal out of the bag. It's a Bearmach one part number MVC3733
I can't work out how it fits on the glass. It's either the wrong one, or I'm so sick, frustrated and getting angry with the whole thing that I can't see the wood for the trees.:oops:

I've been looking through old threads and some say Defender windscreen seals only come with the 'pull the cord around' to get the seal over the frame type and not with a filler strip. I've read other threads hat talk about a filler strip. This is my seal.

Just looking at the front of it.

There are two gaps on the reverse side.

This makes me think this seal needs a filler strip, which I don't have.
I've got a 1996 300Tdi
I can't find my old seal. I'm sure I haven't thrown it out, I might find it when I calm down  and start looking properly!

Please help, cos I'm very fed up.

That looks like the right seal to me. You're not the only one to be confused by it, I was getting rather ****ed off with mine too, thinking how the **** does this work with 3 slots.
Luckily I had another to look at to try and work it out and noticed the third slot isn't used. Which looks to be the one at the top of picture 3.
And as far as I'm aware no defender windscreens have used a filler strip, only rear quarter windows.

Cheers, Aaron. I took a break and went off to clean up some bits I'm getting galvanised. Went back to it and worked out how it fit on the screen. Ran cord around the correct recess and went out to fit it. Seemed to be flying in, pulling the cord from inside. Couldn't get the drivers side in, the whole screen needed to slide across to the passenger side by a mm or two. Just a smidge! Decided there was too much friction to push it along and it would have to come out and try again. Fractured the screen trying to get it out :(:(:(:(

I did the same, cracked mine when trying to fit it. Paid a local windscreen company to get the new screen fitted.

did the same first time round.

crossed my fingers doing the heated replacement though and it went in.

trick is to get both left and right sides started or you have the issue you found. the screen moves along and you cant push it back.

then work it to get all 4 corners in and the long straights should pull easy

i also think the original screens were much less flexible and prone to cracking than the replacement.

Yes, words to that affect did cross my mind.

Cheers, potus. It's good to know your not alone. Actually, when reading up on threads before I gave it a go, I read about someone who succeeded on his 3rd screen! I must admit I'm contemplating getting someone else to do the next one.

I think you are spot on with that description of how to fit one, top drive. I was working my way towards that system. Probably just another couple of screens away ;)

Are the holes in the body panel over sized? Maybe some rivet burrs required?
No, the aperture is spot on Ninky. Appreciate the suggestion though.

Ha ha, only joking mate. Words a lot worse than that crossed my mind. Although thinking back, I don't think I actually said anything. I was struck dumb!

Take a look on ebay. There's two guys who sell them new for just over £100.

Depending where abouts you are, there's one guy in Birmingham and another in north yorkshire somewhere.

I haven't bought one yet, but plan to as my screen needs replacing anyway.....
